multilingual surgeon
Mostly every teenager has a plan of what they want to become when they grow
up. So do I. I want to become a surgeon when I grow up. A heart surgeon. A heart
surgeon is someone who does heart surgeries. In this occupation I will be able to
perform surgeries on all kinds of people such as: kids, teenagers, adults, and elderly. I
will save their lives and give them a better life ahead.
As a surgeon I will have really busy days at work. There are three main things
that surgeons do during their day. One is office. surgeons spend a fraction of their time
in their office doing check-ups and attending meetings. The second main part of their
day is seeing patients. Cardiologists go see the patients they have already performed
surgeries on, or see new patients during this part of their day. The third and last is
performing surgeries. During this time surgeons perform surgeries in the operation
room. Sometimes doing surgeries can take a lot of time. As you can see that surgeons
have a lot of things to do in a day. This may lead you to believe that being a surgeon is
hard but I still want to be one.
It is obvious that being a surgeon is my goal. But the question is why am I
interested in this job? well that question has two answers. One is that I want to see
smiles. When I was a small girl I used to watch a lot of television. One day on TV I saw
a patient going through a surgery ,when he was done with it, he was happy. That person
was saved from death. I saw him smile again after a long time. That made me cry and
smile at the same time. Since that day I decided that I want to see those smiles every
day I go to work. I want to save lives. That's why I decided that I want to become a
surgeon.
The second reason I want to be a surgeon is challenge and pride. I have always
liked challenges, because they help me learn more, and make me a better person.
Being a heart surgeon, as I've heard, is a hard task. That's why I want to become one.
You know that feeling you get when you do something and you feel really proud of it.
That's what I want. I want to graduate as a cardiologist (heart surgeon) and be able to
say to myself that "I am proud of myself." for doing all that hard work.
As I've mentioned earlier in my essay that it takes a lot of hard work to become a
heart surgeon. You have to go through a total of 13 years of college. First ,an applicant
must go through 4 years of collage/university, to get an bachelors degree. Next, that
applicant should go to a medical school to get an MD's degree. Last, he/she must go to
a medical school for surgeons. Here they will be trained to do surgeries on a special
body part they choose as well as normal surgeries. If someone wants to become a
surgeon they must have the following skills: patience, hard working, an determination.
And also that person should be able to work under pressure. These were just a few of
the skills needed to become a surgeon, there a lot more skills needed.
Being multilingual has an advantage. In my case, I have three advantages. One
is that I can understand their language, when they can't understand English. For
example, whenever I have a patient that doesn't understand English and speaks the
language I do, then I can understand what their saying. This way I will be able to
respond back in my language. The second advantage of knowing another language is
feeling the same. Since I'm multilingual I know what it feels like when you're thrown out
into a strange new world. What it feels like when someone is talking to you and you
don't understand a thing that they are saying. I have been through the same phase
before. This way I'm their friend, because I can relate to them and tell them that it's
going to be okay. The third advantage is that I can go back to India to help out. When I
become a surgeon I can go back and help the poor and the ones in need of help. These
were a few of the advantages that I have for being multilingual.
As you've learned in my essay that being a surgeon is not very hard, and not
very easy. All you need is determination and hard work. It is never a shameful thing to
know another language. To be from a different country and know another culture. I have
learned this in the past few years, and I'm proud of knowing another language.
